The start of the year is always a great time for me. The months of November and December are always frantic with custom orders, last minute requests and quite frankly, cranky people. When that last custom order leaves the shop, it is a wave of relief. That relief is usually only short lived as I realize I have done nothing for the holidays for my own family and frantically try to get the rest of the presents purchased and everything else that goes with it. Talk about some mom guilt!
After Christmas, our out of state in laws usually visit
and my daughters birthday is the 29th,
then we have New Years with friends
and then finally everyone goes back to work and school and I finally find time to head back to the studio.
I truly have a love hate relationship with the season but in the end it is all good!
I start the year with a clean slate, thinking about what worked, what do I want to achieve this year, what new things do I want to do and how to get it all scheduled in because the list is always long and more than I have time for.
This year I am trying to be very intentional on where I spend my time. I have some big goals that are going to demand more focus.
My son got engaged
and we will be having a wedding in the near future and I want to be available for him. My husband and I are celebrating a big anniversary this year, 35 years, and trying to plan a nice trip but covid keeps messing with that and finally I have a big birthday coming up.
All that to say, I work alone and it is lonely and difficult. Sometimes making those goals and decisions are hard because you have no co-workers to discuss ideas with, share concerns, etc... I do have a great group of ladies that I can discuss big ideas with (Go POD E) but not the day to day decisions. So the month of January is a month of reflection, thoughts, and gratitude for me. I spend the end of the month at a week long retreat in Arizona and a little gemstone shopping in Tucson for the upcoming year!
Stay tuned for my next blog which will discuss some of the specifics of the decisions being made, hopefully you can weigh in and be my co-workers!
